![]() ![]() ![]() Privateers carrying a Letter of Marque were granted certain immunities if caught, such as being immune from being hanged for piracy, though this was not always the case if the letter was not recognised as being issued by a legitimate government or monarchy. In essence, it was a form of legalised piracy, issued on behalf of country from where the letter was obtained. ![]() Letters of Marque (and reprisal) could often be obtained from various governments or, in the case of "Port Royale 2", from the various governors to capture enemy ships and their goods on behalf of a country. ![]()
